This year 18 to 25 January in many parts of the world are celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian unity, while others celebrated at Pentecost.
As we remember, Chiara Lubich was wont to comment on the biblical verse gradually chosen for the occasion.
This year the biblical phrase for the Week of Prayer is. "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, the breaking of bread and to prayer" (Acts 2:42). For reflection and the life of Clare we propose a text written in 1994 commenting on the passage from the Acts 4.32.

This word has one of those literary squares (see also 2.42, 5.12 to 16), in which the author of Acts informs us in broad terms the first Christian community in Jerusalem. That there appears to be characterized by extraordinary freshness and dynamism of spiritual, prayer and witness, especially a large unit, note that Jesus wanted as an unmistakable sign of fertility and the source of his Church.
The Holy Spirit, which is given in Baptism to those who accept the word of Jesus, being a spirit of love and unity of all believers was a thing only with the Risen Christ and with each other beyond all differences of race, culture and social class.

But we see more detailed aspects of this unit.
The Holy Spirit was working among the first believers unity of hearts and minds, helping them to overcome those feelings that make it difficult, in the dynamics of fellowship.
The greatest obstacle to unity is in fact our individualism, it is attachment to our ideas, views and personal tastes. E 'with our selfishness that we build barriers with which we isolate ourselves and we exclude those who are different from us.

Therefore, we need a new conversion to God who wants us united.
This Word also will help us better understand the contradiction between Christian faith and selfish use of material goods. It will help us achieve genuine solidarity with those in need, even within the limits of our ability.
and then found in the month when we celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Word moves us to pray and to strengthen our bonds of unity and love sharing with our brothers and sisters belonging to various churches, with whom we share one faith and one spirit of Christ, received in Baptism.

Meru - Kenya

Day:

Our experience begins when leaving the airport in Nairobi, we meet Baba Tony, with a sign showing the logo of the Community was waiting for us at night.

Now we realize that we're in safe hands, maybe his way of doing, because that speaks the local language ... .. it was our fear of not finding anyone, given the delay to technical problems that have accumulated in Istanbul and not speaking English we would have had serious problems.

Now we drive to our destination ... .. the Community which is located in Meru and is about 350 km airport.

We are tired but the desire of curiosity, is a lot of questions that sleep is not surprising.

Perhaps Baba Tony, would like to take a nap, since that time and the day before on the road to come and go, but her kindness means that answers all our questions and curiosity.

Unfortunately the dark African night does not allow us to admire the landscape, but he reassures us that when we return to Nairobi, at the end of our period of voluntary day trip.

In about four hours we reach the City Meru, Baba Tony gives us an African-style breakfast, takes us on a typical restaurant where we refreshed with fried sausages, mandzi, samosas and fried eggs, all served with a hot chai.

After this breakfast that made us be born again and forget the tiredness, we come into the community, to welcome us, we find the children of Kathiranga Orphans Home and the staff that everyone in the local choir singing songs and dancing. The thrills and excitement grow

not long in coming.

Now we have our room, simple, clean, with two beds, bathroom and shower are shared with other volunteers.

The Guest House reserved for volunteers is a beautiful brick house, of course, in African style, but nothing is missing!

Immediately we come into contact with children who are orphaned, are friendly and curious but also a little shy.

Baba Tony tells us about the activities that we could do in communities, and safari tours that we organize during our stay.

The day has gone by quickly, unfortunately, the night fell, dark as expected.

The following days have flown by, really flew between maintenance, tours and safari, an unforgettable experience that we recommend to all friends, we visited the Meru National Park, the City of Meru, the Village Riiji, waterfalls, the ancient tree in the forest and many other things, but my greatest joy was spending many hours with children, play and sing with them and know them to be made happy with our presence.

we want to dedicate a special thanks to Tony Baba, which allowed us to know this reality and followed us throughout our stay and we had an interpreter with the Kiswahili language. Thanks Tony

ABOUT

Baba Tony Children's, Supporting and Dispesary Kathiranga is a small community that supports the management of small dispensary and some their children in poor families, is situated in the village in Meru Kathiranga City, which is about 350 km from Nairobi.

The Community was founded by the will of Baba in January 2011 that Tony has decided to implement this project in cooperation of Local Authorities of the Village.

LOCATION

Meru is located along the river Kathir, on the northeastern slopes of Mount Kenya .

It is located about eight miles north of ' equator ,

about 1,500 meters of altitude, in an area characterized by a multiplicity of environments: forests, clearings, small towns, villages and farms.

The city can be reached on paved roads or south, through Embu and along the eastern slopes

of Mount Kenya, north through Nanyuki and Timau along the northwestern slopes of Mt.

The Meru District is also a strategic point to reach the nearby nature reserves Samburu, Buffalo Spring , Lewa Downs

and the

Meru National Park .

The town of Meru is an important center for economy, agriculture and education in the north-eastern Kenya. There are banks and hotels, markets and transport stations. In the district are widespread cultivation of coffee of tea , the beans and raising livestock and the collection of timber .

As for schools, there are primary and secondary schools, including two of the most prestigious schools in Kenya, the Meru High School and the Kaag Girls School.

The harvest is carried out twice a year, corresponding to the rainy season, but the main one is on a different schedule than the rest of the nation because of the different climatic conditions of the north slopes of Mount Kenya and mountains of Nyambene.

The plantations are all at high altitude, volcanic soils.

Meru is also the main area of \u200b\u200bcultivation of Mira of Kenya.

Many growers prefer it because it was economically advantageous.

According to a survey conducted in 1999 by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, in the town of Meru counts 42,677 inhabitants (census 1999).

Its population mainly belongs to the tribe of Meru .
